This year’s Japanese Ambassador’s Judo, Karate and Kendo championships ended at the Hathiramani Sports Hall of the Accra Sports Stadium last Sunday.
The two-day event featured participants in Cadets, Male 73kg, 81kg and 90kg and females in 47kg, 57kg and 63kg categories, putting up inspiring judo performances.
Frank Tekpor dominated and won the 73kg division, followed by Moses Tarley, who was second. Godwin Dadi placed first in the 81kg ahead of Derek Addo in the second position.
In the Men’s 60kg, Vincent Boateng defeated Jones Mintah to emerge the winner while Isaac Williams emerged winner in the 90kg Men.
In the Female 63kg, Elizabeth Serwaa Oduro emerged the best, followed by Emmanuella Tindan and Felicia Mintah in second and third, respectively.
The Karate and Kendo performances continued with Nasiru Alhassan decorated with the gold medal after some powerful display in the 84kg to edge out his opponent, Jones Opoku.
In other results, Emmanuel Adjei defeated Gideon Ashley to win the 75kg; in- form Felix Annan defeated Abdullah Mohammed in the 84kg contest.
The championships was graced by the Japanese Ambassador to Ghana, Mr Mochizuki Hisanobu.
In his remarks, the Ambassador expressed in delight with the performances, adding that, “I hope it will motivate athletes to train more and win at the Olympics.”
