‘Young Africans must fall today’

Confederation of African Football (CAF) Champions League campaigners, Medeama SC, will welcome back their star striker, Jonathan Sowah, from suspension for today game against Young Africans from Tanzania at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

The slippery striker missed his side’s last game in the competition against Algerian outfit, CR Belouizdad, due to accumulated cards.

His return for today’s game is a huge boost for Head Coach, Augustine Evans Adotey, who revealed that his absence was felt in their hard-fought 2-1 win over the Algerians last week.

“Sowah is integral to the team and his return is a good news for us as a team; we hope he will do his magic to push the team to victory today.”

Medeama is aiming for their second consecutive win in the CAF elite competition, and with all the arsenal available would go a long way to help the team snatch victory to keep alive their hopes of making it out of the group.

Medeama recovered from their match day one setback against Al Ahly to see off CR Belouizdad at home last week. A win today would put them in good stead toward qualification.

“We’ll leave nothing to chance today; we need a win to keep our dream on course. This is something the players know and together, we would work towards it,” coach Adotey said ahead of the game.

“Like I stated ahead of our last game, the mission is to win. I don’t really care about the score line, all that matters to me is that Medeama will be victorious after 90 minutes,” coach Adotey added.

Coach Adotey, however, has some injury concerns ahead of today’s games as influential duo Abdul Fatawu Hamidu and midfielder, Theophilus Anobah, have withdrawn from the game due to various degrees of injuries.

This will be the second time the two sides would be meeting in a CAF organised competition. They first met in the 2016 Confederations Cup where the Ghanaian side held them to a 1-1 draw away before posting a 3-1 win in the return leg in Sekondi.

The Tanzanian giants, who arrived in the country on Tuesday, led by former Bechem United striker, Hafiz Wontah Konkoni, is promising a hell for the Ghanaian champions as he revealed that he has spoken to his colleagues and given them the dossier they needed for the game.
