A non-governmental organisation, Bozzsikaman PROTOGHA Foundation will embark on a 151.2km walk from Accra to Ho.
The six-day journey, which will start from December 13 to 19, is expected among other things to exercise the body, educate the indigenes of various communities along the Accra-Ho stretch on patriotism, sanitation, community development and create awareness on peaceful coexistence between the citizenry.
Speaking to Times Sports in an interview in Accra on Monday, the founder of the foundation, Nelson Sellasi Abitty indicated that the route of the walk were Accra to Dodowa, Dodowa to Somanya, Somanya to Atimpoku, Atimpoku to Asikuma.
The rest were Asikuma to Tsito, Tsito to Sokode and Sokode to Ho.
Mr Abitty, who is also known as Ghana Man, said the walk was aimed at instilling the spirit of patriotism into the younger generation and prepare patriotic leaders for the country.
He said fun clubs would be created in communities along the Ho stretch to imbibe in the youth the culture of patriotism
Mr Abitty also added that the walk will educate people of the need to shun tribal, political and religious clashes ahead of next year’s general elections.
According to Ghana Man, the challenges confronting the country were not political but rather it had to do with the mindset of Ghanaians saying that “If our mindsets are right, it does not matter who is leading the country, development will flow but if the mindset is negative things will remain the same.”
“The issue of patriotism affects every aspect of our dealings as a nation and has to be given serious attention.
“This will go a long way to bring sanity in the Ghanaian society and it shall be felt at every level of the Ghanaian society,” he added.
Ghana Man said it was the hope of the foundation to use the message of patriotism to change the mindset of the people along the road to Ho whilst putting aside their differences.
He said during the walk from Accra to Kumasi last year, the people were of the view that the needed change ought to start from the top and not from the grassroots, “but I told them that it was the grassroots that carried much weight hence the need to begin our campaign from there.”
Mr Akitty, therefore, urged citizens along the Accra-Ho route to support the walk to make it a success.
