Mordzifa, Kwei-Sam show class at MTN Invitational Golf

The maiden MTN Invitational Golf Tournament 2023, came off at the Celebrity Golf Club in Accra on Saturday with Justice Mordzifa emerging as the winner.

Mordzifa beats off a stiff competition in the Men’s Group A event to record 37 points to walk away with a trophy, an iPhone and other goodies from MTN and other sponsors, Tecno and Infinix.

He was followed by Jack Yang Lin with 36 points in second position and Francis Amuzu with 35 points in third position.

In the Ladies event, Nadia Kwei-Sam mounted the podium for the ultimate prize after producing 32 points to beat Mercy Werner, who closely finished with 31 points for the second position.

Patricia Adusei-Poku placed third with a count-back loss to Werner with 31 points.

In the Men’s Group B event, Hai Yu Yu won with 42 points and followed by Benig­no Mimis and Abdul Aziz Amankwa with 38 and 35 points each to finish second and third, respectively.

Mercy Werner, however, was the toast of fans as she swept the Closest-to-the-Pin and the Longest Drive prizes in the ladies category, while Dr Nana Amoako Mensah won the Closest-to-the-Pin (Men) and the Longest Drive (Men) going to Solomon Okoe Allotey.

Addressing players and fans, the Ag. Chief Enterprise Business Executive of MTN, Daniel Asare, expressed excitement over the success of the event that provided a platform for golfers to interact with the brand executives.

He said the support of golfers to the MTN brand was incredible and looked forward to more of such brand building collaborations.

He continued: “We are committed to the organisation of the competition and excited another event had come to a successful end. Congratulations to all winners. We urge other golfers to prepare for subse­quent competitions.”

The Captain for Celebrity Golf Club, Mr Theodore Asampah, urged MTN to keep up the good work and help develop golf in the country especially the youth.

He commended golfers from across the country for coming, and congratulated the winners and wished the others better luck.
