Medeama SC, Dreams FC begin GPL with match day 2 fixtures

Ghana’s representatives in Africa inter-club championships, Medeama SC and Dreams FC, will begin their campaigns in the betPawa Ghana Premier League with dicey encounters this weekend.

The duo were missing in match day one games of the competition due to their participation in the Confederation of African Football (CAF) flagship inter-club championships – the Champions League and Confederations Cup.

Medeama, the GPL defending champions, recorded an impressive 3-1 first leg victory over Horoya AC at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium while Dreams FC earned a narrow 2-1 victory over FC Kallon of Sierra Leone.

Their matches against Accra Lions at the Arkoon Park in Tarkwa and Premier League debutants, Nations FC, at the Dawu Park have since been declared outstanding game which are expected to be ‘cleared’ on Wednesday.

Ahead of their return leg encounters, Medeama is expected to lock horns with Aduana Stars in a tough fixture at the Dormaa Park, while Dreams FC play as guests of Bechem United at the Bechem grounds.

And with the three biggest traditional clubs, Hearts of Oak,

Kumasi Asante Kotoko and Wonder Club, Accra Great Olympics, all starting on a shaky note, attention would switch to how they react with the match day two encounters.

Hearts lost against RTU, a win that stretched RTU’s new form over the Phobians to three wins on a bounce, leaving Hearts with a difficult challenge to beat Nsoatreman in Accra when they clash on Sunday.

Asante Kotoko and Great Olympics, however, survived scares to end their respective matches against Heart of Lions and Tano Boafoakwa goalless and would hope to return to winning ways.

But at Bibiani and Kpando, the fortress of Goldstars and Heart of Lions, wins for Kotoko and Olympics appear insurmountable tasks. Consecutive draws for them would not be bad results for them.

Karela FC will lock horns with Berekum Chelsea in a match that promises to be full of excitement just as the Accra derby that pits Accra Lions against Legon Cities.

In Kumasi, Nations FC will kick their season off with a home clash against FC Samartex, while Tano Bofoakwa oblige RTU to the Sunyani Coronation Park.
