Manyo Plange targets WBA world title

Sleek Ghanaian boxer, Jessie Manyo Plange, is supremely confident of annexing the World Boxing Association (WBA) bantamweight title by the end of the year.

“I’m working very hard with my management and by the grace of God the dream of winning a world title will be accomplished this year.”

Manyo Plange said this when he was adorned with the Professional Boxing Council (PBC) super flyweight title in Accra, on Friday.

The 2008 Olympian (20-0-1, 16 KOs) last Saturday February 1, thrilled an animated crowd – recording a thumping fourth round kayo over Nigeria’s Sheriff Kareem in their bantamweight contest to win the title at the Bukom Boxing Arena.

He was, however, not decorated on the night due to the delayed arrival of the title belt.

Last week’s spectacular performance earned Manyo Plange a No. 8 slot on the WBA bantamweight rankings, anopportunity the boxer asserted he would not allow to slip by.

“This is a great chance and I pray that things work out well for me and my able-bodied team,” he said.

He was grateful to the promoters of the fight – Fist of Fury, as well as the organisers, Fight Ready Promotions, and the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) for the opportunity.

The new PBC super flyweight holder also expressed appreciation to his management, All for One Promotions, led by Mohammed Abdul Samadu, who doubles as the Ghana Boxing Federation (GBF), Vice President;  Alhaji Muritella Tofik, Ghana Boxing Association (GBA) executive member, and his fans – for their unflinching support.

“All I need from them is to pray for me as I’m also doing my bit to make the dream complete,” Manyo Plange entreated.
