Let’s foster community engagement – VOiCE cic

The Voice Center for Inclusive Communities (VOiCE cic), a non-governmental organisation based in Accra has urged candidates vying for the district level elections to showcase their competence and capability.

It also called on them to clearly articulate their vision for the community, backed by well-researched and feasible plans.

“As we approach December 19, 2023, let us collectively strive for an election characterised by informed choices, robust community engagement, and a record-breaking voter turnout. VOiCE cic stands in solidarity with candidates dedicated to fostering inclusivity, understanding, and positive change in their communities,” a statement issued and signed by the President of VOiCE cic, Ahmed M. Yaajalaal copied the Ghanaian Times said.

“We extend a heartfelt message to all potential candidates. We believe that true democracy thrives when candidates actively engage with their communities, focusing on local government issues that matter most to the people,” the statement said.

The statement added that “competent leadership instils confidence in voters, assuring them that you are equipped to navigate the complexities of governance and bring about positive outcomes.”

“Local government plays a crucial role in shaping the everyday lives of citizens. Emphasise key local issues such as infrastructure, education, healthcare, and public services in your campaign. Outline concrete plans and policies that address these concerns, demonstrating your commitment to fostering positive change at the grassroots level,” the statement said.

“A vibrant democracy requires active participation. Candidates, inspire your community to exercise their fundamental right to vote on Election Day.

Use your platforms to deliver messages of civic responsibility, emphasising the significance of each vote in shaping the future. Encourage unity and emphasize that every voice matters in the democratic process,” it said.

The statement noted that “As candidates, your connection with the community is paramount. Take the time to understand the concerns and aspirations of your constituents. Hold open dialogues, town hall meetings, and community forums to create a platform for meaningful discussions. By actively listening and responding to the needs of your community, you lay the foundation for effective representation
