Farouk Aliu Mahama confirmed NPP Parliamentary Candidate for Yendi in 2024 general elections.

The National Executive Committee (NEC)of the New Patriotic Party(NPP) on Tuesday confirmed the current Member of Parliament for Yendi Constituency in the Northern Region, Alhaji Farouk Aliu Mahama, as the sole Parliamentary Candidate for 2024 general elections.

The party at its NEC meeting passed the resolution in respect of the party’s parliamentary primaries in accordance with the article 12 of the party’s constitution.

The NEC made this known in a press statement and signed by the General Secretary of the party, Mr Justin Kodua Frimpong, after a crucial meeting

According to the statement, violence erupted in the Yendi Constituency on Saturday, January 27, 2024, during the ballot counting process for the parliamentary primaries.

The statement said the primaries was keenly contested by the incumbent MP for Yendi, Alhaji Farouk Aliu Mahama, and the Chief Executive Officer of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), Hajia Abibata Shani Mahama Zakariah.

The statement also stated that Hajia Abibata Shani Mahama submitted a petition to the party’s leadership following the incident, and called for the annulment of the election results due to the chaotic atmosphere that disrupted the counting process.

According to the statement, her petition alleged to a conspiracy among some party officials to manipulate the elections in favour of a specific candidate.

Her petition said the actions was against the democratic values of the party and therefore, they was the need for the leaders of the party to invalidate the primaries.

Meanwhile, Alhaji Farouk Aliu Mahama, the confirmed PC for the Yendi Constituency and incumbent MP on Wednesday issued a press statement to applaud the NEC for confirming him as the Parliamentary Candidate for the constituency.

He said, he was commitment to bring every party member onboard to rally behind him to win the upcoming general elections come December 7.

Alhaji Mahama stated that his goal was to ensure that the party retain the seat with massive votes.

He extend his warmly reconciliation and unity to all party bigwigs in the constituency, former aspirants, party members, and supporters.

Alhaji Mahama stated that it this was the time for them to come together as one family and put the differences aside them and work towards the victory of the party.

He said even though each and every one of them pursued their own individual ambitions but they still belong to the elephant family.

Alhaji Mahama, however, appealed to all party members and supporters in the constituency to remain committed to the party and unite for the development of the constituency.

He also reaffirmed his continuation of his “New Yendi City Agenda” (NYC) to give the people of area the needed development they desired.

Alhaji Mahama thanked the President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and his Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, for their counsel, direction, and wisdom throughout the process.
