Hold leaders accountable – Chief admonishes youth

Obrempong Hema Dekyi, the Paramount Chief of Upper Dixcove Traditional Area, has admonished the youth to hold their leaders accountable for the use and sale of stool lands for the progress, growth and development of their communities.

He raised concerns about the manner in which traditional authorities were left unquestioned on the use of stool lands and wondered how the youth were silent over the lack of probity, accountability and transparency by their leaders.

“The bane of Ahanta has never been the politician, the bane of Ahanta has not been anybody, the bane of Ahanta has not been the traditional authority, it is the silence of the youth and it is about time you call your traditional authorities to order on how many companies we have not seen on Ahanta land,” Obrempong Dekyi quizzed.

He challenged the youth not to forget to ask their traditional authorities, Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives and government appointees about their interest in the progress, growth and development of their communities by organisations and companies on their land and how such contracts were even executed.

”You have left us, we are not tin gods, we are human beings just like you, we were picked among you and only elevated just to lead you, we are not supposed to let you be worse off than you deserve, as traditional rulers we have to seek better terms of agreement when investors make offers for our lands which must inure far reaching benefits for our youth.

“I have been urging my colleague chiefs lands are not for sale, I have been on this stool for seven years, I have not sold a plot of land before, I do not even know how much a plot of land costs not that people are not knocking at my door, they come with huge sums of money but the issue is, the terms they offer will not help our youth.”

“The Ahanta area has for years been plagued with land litigation and chieftaincy disputes, I have appealed to other traditional authorities to prioritise socioeconomic development over litigation which is hampering progress and growth of areas,” Obrempong Dekyi decried. –starrfm.com.gh
