Ghana win first bowling medal

 Mr Festus Annan, a Ghanaian bowler won Ghana’s first medal in bowling, a sport newly intro­duced in Ghana.

Mr Annan, who doubles as Welfare Officer for the Ghana team at the just ended 2023 Africa Bowling Development Championship at the prestigious Koko Bowling Center in Johan­nesburg, South Africa, won for the best points average player for Ghana.

The other bowler, John Gli also earned high praise for his brilliant strikes as a first timer.

The event held on February 14-19, attracted five out of the 10 federations affiliated to the Africa Bowling Federation (ABF), with Ghana’s preparation supported by the Ministry of Youth and Sports (MoYS).

The President of the Ghana Bowling Federation (GBF), Mr Charles Obeng Amofah, thanked the Minister of Youth and Sports, Mustapha Ussif, as well as the Chief Director of the Ministry, Alhaji Hafiz Adams, for the huge support that enabled the Team Ghana to participate in the tournament.

The championship also afforded the GBF President the opportunity to call on Ghana’s High Commissioner to South Africa, Mr Charles Owiredu, who commended Team Ghana for the effort to develop the sport in the country.

Other members of Team Ghana, includes Robert Adjase Tetteyfio and Kwame Baa Mensa of the National Sports Authority.

The team arrived yesterday.
