Black Stars captain Ayew joins Le Havre

Black Stars captain, Andre Dede Ayew, has joined French Ligue 1 side Le Havre after a substantive spell of inactivity.

The veteran midfielder makes his return to the French top flight after eight years with his last run in the league being with Olympique Marseille.

This comes on the back of reports that linked the former Lorient and Nottingham Forest player to a club in the top half of the French League by French Football Journalist Sebastien Denis.

At the time of writing, Le Havre ranks seventh in the 18 team league standings with 14 points off three wins, five draws and three losses.

Prior to joining Le Havre, Ayew was unattached to any club since the conclusion of the 2022-2023 season following a short spell with Forest in the English Premier League.

Ayew has been included in the Black Stars squad that is due to play 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Madagascar on Friday in Kumasi and Comoros on November 21.

The former Swansea City forward is the Black Stars most capped player and his signing comes as Ghana prepares to compete in the AFCON for the 10th consecutive time.

Ghana has been drawn in Group B with Egypt, Mozambique and Cape Verde in Cote d’Ivoire at the 2023 AFCON.

Meanwhile, Black Stars Head Coach, Chris Hughton, is hopeful Arsenal midfielder, Thomas Partey, will return to full fitness and gets back in good form in time for the Black Stars 2023 AFCON campaign.

He told the BBC in the lead up to two 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers for the Black Stars against Madagascar on November 17 and Comoros on November 21.

Partey has been ruled out of both contests after picking up a muscle injury ahead of Arsenal’s Match Day three fixture against Sevilla in Spain in the UEFA Champions League.

His recovery time seemingly worsened after suffering a setback, prompting the former Atletico Madrid player to see a specialist to deal with a thigh problem.

“We are all very much aware the quality of player that he is. Unfortunately for us, he is injured at this period of time.”

“We are very very hopeful that he will be fit and back playing and in good form by the time that we get to AFCON but at this very moment we don’t know.”
