Legon Cities hold Hearts

Resilient Legon Cities denied Accra Hearts of Oak the maximum points after holding them to a pulsating 1-1 draw in their Ghana Premier League (GPL) week 18 fixture played at the El-Wak Sports Stadium on Saturday.

Hearts took an early lead in the 12th minute through Isaac Mensah who benefited from a well taken corner from SulleyMuntari to head home from close range.

But just when Coach Samuel Boadu’s side was hoping to clinch all three points, Osman Amadu drew the dagger in injury time to deny Hearts all the three points.

Legon Cities benefitted from a defensive error to find the equalizer after a very dominant display from Hearts.

The defending champions dominated the game after taking the lead as they probed for another goal to cushion the lead.

Legon Cities, however, remained resolute and kept a good composure to deny their opponents from scoring another goal which would have sent the game out of their reach.

Hearts goal scorer, Isaac Mensah went close to scoring again in the 37th minute but his shot forced a great save from the Legon Cities goalkeeper.

Daniel Afriyie Barnieh had another chance to make amends for Mensah’s miss in the second half but also failed to find the back of the net at close range.

Legon Cities committed a lot of players upfront in the dying minutes of the game and managed to pull a late equalizer.

Hearts of Oak are still chasing a win in four games while Legon Cities are enjoying a good run at the El-Wak Sports Stadium.
