Barreto slams dreadful Dawu Park

Mariano Barreto, Head Coach of Asante Kotoko is not happy about the condition of the Dawu Park despite their hard-fought 3-2 victory over Inter Allies in the 29th week league game of the Ghana Premier League (GPL).

The Porcupine Warriors were pegged back twice in the highly entertaining encounter but an Andrew Appau strike ensured Kotoko secured all three points, moving level on points with arch-rivals Hearts on 53 points.

According to the coach, playing on such dreadful pitches does not help the development of the game and sometimes you cannot blame the players because the conditions are bad.

“If we want to help the development of football in Ghana, we cannot play on this kind of pitch. This pitch is not well planned and I’m surprised how it was approved.

“It is not good for the security of the players and it’s not enough to blame players because they are not doing well. They deserve the right conditions to play.

“I’m not talking against anyone but I think we should provide the right conditions for the development of the game,” he said in a post-match presser.

He added that football was not only about winning or losing but a top league like the Ghana Premier League deserves good conditions of play.

Kotoko would engage Division Two side Thunderbolt FC in an MTN FA Cup fixture over the weekend before facing off against Karela United in their match week 30 encounter next mid-week. –GNA
