HOSTAC Ladies win maiden ampe championship

HOSTAC Ladies emerged winners of the maiden Homowo Ampe competition held at the Accra Sports Stadium on Saturday.

They beat TSTM Ladies 2-1 in the final match to earn the bragging rights as winners of the maiden competition.

TSTM placed second while CASA Ladies emerged third when they beat Star Girls.

The first three winners took home some souvenirs donated by sponsors.

Other participating teams were Complex Ladies, SWAG Ladies and Shuddle Girls.

The President of the Women Sports Association of Ghana (WOSPAG), Mrs Joyce Mahama said the sport had rules and regulations just as other well-known sports like football, handball, hockey and tennis.

She said the sport would soon be accepted as an international sport andplay at the African Games (AG) to be hosted by Ghana next year.

“This competition is to help you learn and identify ourselves with the rules of the sport. We’ll further explain the rules and regulations so that you will be conversant with them,” Mrs Mahama said.

She mentioned that ampe would be introduced to schools to encouraged girls of all ages to participate and grow the sport.

The president of WOSPAG encouraged the players to continue to train since there are opportunities for the future.
