Black Bombers buoyed by relay team’s qualification to Paris 2024

The Head Coach of the Black Bombers, OforiAsare, says his boxers will take inspiration from the qualification of Ghana’s 4x100m men’s relay team for the 2024 Olympic Games as they chase qualification for the global showpiece.

Speaking to the Time Sports on Tuesday,Coach Asare said the team was buoyed by the feat and every boxer was determined to make an appearance at the Games in Paris.

The team is currently holding a non-residential camping for the final 2024 Olympic Games qualifier in Bangkok, Thailand, from May 25 to June 5.

In his view, Ghana’s men’s relay team qualification for the Games from the World Relay Championship in the Bahamashas no doubt impacted positively on the boxers and are all poised to use the Bangkok qualifiers to qualify.

According to him, the zeal and spirit of his boys have hit an all-time high, a situation he needs to manage them psychologically to get the very best out of them.

He said qualification for the Paris Olympics has been one of the most difficult for African boxers.

He also said qualification for African boxerswas difficult because only winners were picked unlike the European qualifiers where boxers were selected from the quarter-final stages in some weight categories.

He further assured that should everything go on fairly, at least three or more Ghanaian boxers can qualify.

Coach Asareappealed to corporate Ghana to come to the aid of the boxing team by financially supporting the team’s preparation.

“We are in dire need of vitamins, supplements, food, and accommodations to camp the team from now until we leave for the tournament,” he stated.

Expected to make the trip will be flyweight, TheophilusKpakpoAllotey, featherweight, Mohammed Amadu, lightwelterweight, Joseph Commey or Samuel Takyi, light middleweight, Henry Malm, and light heavyweight, Jonathan Tetteh.

The team would be joined in Bangkok by British-basedsuper heavyweight, Mark KodjoviAhondjo, and female middleweight,OrnellaSathoud, based in the United States.
