NPP needs vibrant flag bearer to retain power – Addai-Nimoh

A New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential hopeful, Francis Addai-Nimoh, has observed that the party needs peace, unity and a vibrant person to lead the party into the next elections to break the eight years of political party rule.

“I am advocating for a new face from the government so that the electorate will have hope, trust and confidence in the NPP to break the eight-year electoral cycle in the 2024 general election,” he stressed.

According to him, a programme under the International Monetary Fund (IMF) would help the government to address the challenges that had been actuated by force majeure and from this time to the end of 2024, the programme should inure to the party and Ghanaians to retain the government in power.

Mr Addai-Nimo, a former Member of Parliament for Mampong Constituency in the Ashanti Region, faulted the National Security for what happened to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo at the Global Citizens Festival when he was heckled by some participants during the delivery of a keynote address about the government’s involvement in eradicating poverty and upholding national unity amidst jeering and booing from the crowd.

He indicated that the Ministry of National Security and the other security detail of the residency should have been able to pick the signal in record time to avert it from happening and urged the security of the president to be on top of their job and stop embarrassing situations and questioned what they were doing and could not pick the intelligence.

On reshuffling of ministerial and other government appointments, Mr Addai-Nimoh entreated that it would have been ideal “if President Akufo-Addo had moved his Minister of Finance Ken Ofori-Atta to another ministry because for me, keeping one person at a particular ministry for long is not the best.

“There are other men and women qualified to head the Ministry of Finance apart from Mr Ofori-Atta, a former lawmaker for New Juaben South, Dr Mark Assibey-Yeboah, is one of the persons who are qualified to be the Ministerof Finance so a reshuffle of Mr Ofori-Atta would have been ideal but the buck stops with the president:”.

He intimated that he would have reshuffled him and other ministers to other ministries like Health and Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration with people like Dr Assibey-Yeboah.
