Make yourselves relevant – Brigitte Dzogbenuku tells LLN’s mentees

A former flagbearer of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP) Brigitte Dzogbenuku  has stated that it is imperative for women not to undervalue themselves because they are a great resource to the country.

According to her, women must focus more on making themselves relevant wherever they find themselves adding that “There is so much we can do if we don’t remain quiet.”

She made the assertion on the second day of the Leading Ladies Network’s (LLN) 2023 Girls Governance Camp which is ongoing at the National Center of the Ghana Girls Guide Association, Achimota, Accra.

The initiative, put together by the LLN, a women focused NGO is aimed at coaching young school girls about leadership aspirations while helping them develop interest in governance and its related activities.

Ms   Dzogbenuku  who is also the Executive Director of Mentoring Women Ghana (MWG) advised participants of the programme to find their place in the society and not focus solely on becoming rich.

“Do not go and work for money only because passion outweighs money. Stick to what you are doing with conviction. Do not let circumstances make you lose hope. Even the great people in the Bible left familiar grounds, comfort zones before they achieved greatness.”

“As women, we must endeavour to always find what we can do to help other women and young girls, We are capable so do not lose hope. This is how we can all grow,” she added.

She commended the LLN for their contribution towards grooming a generation of empowered, selfless and prominent female leaders.

“We must build a community of mentored Women who are mentoring others. Women can change this country. Let us make ourselves relevant. If they don’t give u a chair at the table bring your own chair. Leading Ladies Network is really doing well with their mentorship programmes and I urge every other capable woman to do same,” she stressed.

Ms Dzogbenuku also indicated that when women are economically empowered, they could speak up and invest in other women in their communities therefore creating an enabling environment for women to thrive is very necessary.

Founder of LLN, Mrs Yawa Hansen-Quao in her remarks expressed gratitude to all facilitators and special guests who have joined the programme to make it a success.

She also assured that the NGO will continue to support young girls to enable them grow up and become responsible and succesful leaders.

This year’s edition of the governance camp is on the theme “We are made for more.”

However LLN’s main theme for the year 2023 is “Our Year of Diligence.”

More than 100 girls participated with several other facilitators and dignitaries.

The school girls were selected from schools within the Ga South, Ga North and the Tema West municipalities.
