Inculcate spirit of patriotism in youth – Clergy appeals to leaders

A former principal of the Bible College of Ghana, Bishop Dr Fred Agogo, has urged leaders to inculcate the spirit of patriotism in the youth to play active roles as they contribute towards promotion of peace, unity, stability and nation building.

“Our leaders must inculcate the spirit of patriotism in the youth to continue to play active roles as they contribute towards the promotion of peace, unity, stability and nation building towards the growth and development of our country,” he stressed.

Speaking in an interview shortly after addressing the youth at Dodowa in the Greater Accra Region, Bishop Agogo noted that there was the need to continually urge the youth to desist from causing mayhem in the upcoming general election and inculcate in them the spirit of patriotism to enable the country improve socio-economic growth and development.

“Building the youth in the spirit of patriotism will make them nation building oriented when they take over the mandate of leadership in the future since nation building needs the collective effort of the citizenry, to help achieve the required impact.

“The country needs a peaceful, stable and united atmosphere which is the pre-requisite for the growth and development of multi-party democracy and I will admonish the youth to refrain from causing mayhem and using violence and abusive language to settle scores.

“Such chaotic situations will not augur well for our democratic growth and development efforts and as citizens we must realise ourselves as one people and not to allow anything to divide us but we must resolve to do everything possible and necessary to lend our quota to grow and develop our nation and avoid using violence to settle scores,” Bishop Agogo warned. -GNA
