CAC Road, Paracycling Championship… Ghana powers home first medals

Ghana’s team at the on­going 2023 Confederation of African Cycling (CAC) Road and Paracycling Champion­ship in Accra, won their first two medals on Friday.

Team Ghana won bronze medals in the Youth Women and Team Time Trials (TTT) categories, fol­lowing an impressive outing.

In a distance of 12km over one lap for the Youth Women’s category, Ghana finished third in 52 minutes, while the Algerian team came second in 39 minutes with Nigeria winning the race with 21 minutes.

For the Youth Men’s category, the 24km event over two laps saw team Ghana wining bronze with a time of 52 minutes, while Mauritius and Algeria came first and second respectively.

In other events, the mixed relay category, which covered a distance of 24km over two laps, was won by Mauritius while Rwanda and Burki­na Faso settled for the second and third positions in that order.

The 19th CAC Championship, which began on Wednesday, would enter day five today with 19 African countries participating in both the regular and paracycling events.

The classification championship would also serve as qualification for the 2023 African Games as well as the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

Participating countries include, Algeria, Angola, Nigeria, Benin, Morocco, Ethiopia, Botswana, Burundi and Uganda.
