I’ll break male dominance in assembly election in Juaso – Rosina Boateng

For the first time in the history of the decentralisation concept in the country, a woman is contesting in the Ahenbronum Electoral Area in the upcoming district assembly and unit committee elections, at Juaso, in the Asante-Akim South Municipality.

The seat for Ahenbronum Electoral Area, one of the four electoral areas in the municipality, has never been contested by a woman, only men have over the years, represented the electorate in the area.

The narrative is however different this time as a 25 year-old female teacher seeks to break that age-long routine in the upcoming district level and unit committee elections scheduled for Tuesday December 17, this year.

Rosina Boateng is contesting two other male candidates including the immediate past Assembly Member in what promises to be a fierce contest and being the first female to step forward in a male dominated area, she admitted that the task ahead would be tough, but upbeat that she would emerge the winner.

“It is time for a woman to be given the opportunity to serve the people after years of male dominance. I am abreast with the challenges facing my people in the electoral area and I assure them of my dedication, determination, resolution and commitment to help resolve them through the district assembly when given the nod.”

The aspirant who teaches at the Nsutam D\A Primary School in the Eastern Region, indicated that “I have a lot to offer and I appeal to the electorate to give me the opportunity to serve them, I have touched base with virtually all potential voters in the electoral area and I am hopeful that they will accept my campaign message which hinges on women empowerment, water and sanitation and security.”

Ms Boateng is among 10 women out of 142 candidates contesting in 46 electoral areas in the municipality. -GNA
