Shake up in EC imminent; Dzakpasu, others reassigned

A shake up at the headquarters of the Electoral Commission (EC) is imminent.

The ongoing restructuring will see the transfer of staff and the creation or realignment of departments and units.

The commission has undertaken several review activities and within three months, the Elections Management Body should have a well-functioning communications department.

Dr Bossman Asare, the Deputy Chairman of the Electoral Commission (EC) in charge of Corporate Services, has hinted of a shakeup at the headquarters of the elections management body.

He gave the hint in response to a question about why he had become the EC’s mouthpiece despite the existence of communication persons at the commission.

“The commission has undertaken several review activities and I can say even on authority that within the shortest possible time, at most within three months, we should have a well-functioning communications unit and the restructuring will be extended beyond just the communications department.

“Even [when] you go to IT, procurement and legal

– there are several places. We are looking at some of them. When we conclude, they will be made public for you to have the full information,” Dr Asare assured.

Commenting on the status of Eric Kofi Dzakpasu, the current Head of Communication for the commission, Dr Bossman indicated that “Dzakpasu is a deputy director as I speak to you now, his deputy is still there. He is also an officer. All of them are field workers.”

Some key personnel at the headquarters are being transferred as part of the policy including the commission’s Director of Finance, Joseph Kwaku Asamoah, will be moved to the Ashanti Region to head the commission’s Training Centre while Messrs Dzakpasu is also expected to be moved to the Volta Region as Regional Director and his Deputy, Yussif Ayuba, will be moved to a district office. –kasapafmonline.com
