proofed Assembly members advised against enmity

A former Member of Parliament for Kpone-Katamanso Constituency, Nii Laryea Afotey-Agbo, has advised assembly members not to allow politics to create enmity among them.

“Politics should never divide us because it is everyone’s constitutional right to choose which political party to belong to and that should not make us enemies and no political party will be in power forever,” stated.

Nii Afotey-Agbo noted that as such, building good relationships was important in the political fraternity and attempts to create divisive tendencies would be threat to the democratic dispensation.

Speaking at the confirmation of Samuel Okoe Amanquah as the Kpone-Katamanso Municipal Chief Executive, he indicated that relating well was a strategy to use when in position since the relationship they built with others would enable them to get assistance and support them when contesting for positions.

The Assembly Members overwhelmingly voted for Mr Amanquah, the president’s nominee for Municipal Chief Executive, a 100 per cent endorsement with all 27 members, including the government appointees, voting “Yes” to confirm the nominee in an election supervised by the Electoral Commission (EC).

Mr Amanquah will take over the realms of power in the area from the outgoing Municipal Chief Executive, Solomon Appiah.

The Local Government Law mandates nominees’ gets two-thirds majority votes of Assembly members to stand elected.

Nii Afotey-Agbo urged assembly members to be tolerant and embrace all unpleasant expressions from the public as that was part of the political dispensation and pleaded with them to adequately play their roles in achieving results for the municipality.

He charged Mr Amanquah not to play politics when sharing development projects for assembly members in the municipality and called on them to bury their differences and unite for the development of the area.

Joseph Akuerteh, Member of Parliament (MP) for the Kpone-Katamanso Constituency, pledged to assist and support Mr Amanquah towards accelerated development in the municipality and stressed that after politics development should be the results.

In his acceptance speech, Mr Amanquah expressed appreciation to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for his nomination and thanked the assembly members for his confirmation and assured that progress, growth and development of the municipality would be prioritised and admonished them to join forces to help build the image of Kpone-Katamanso Municipality. -GNA
