Over 1,200 female hairstylists partake in the Kanekalon Regional City Tour workshop

Over 1,200 female hairstylists across all regions in Ghana at the weekend gathered in Accra for the Kanekalon Regional City Tour workshop on the theme “The Hair Xperience”.

It was organised by a Japanese hair fibre manufacturing company, Kaneka, in collaboration with the National Youth Authority (NYA) to educate young entrepreneurs in identifying quality hair products made from 100 per cent Kanekalon fibre.

Speaking at the workshop, the Marketing Executive officer of Kanekalon Corporation, Mrs Charlotte Kumi, revealed that the best way for hairstylists to decipher between original and fake kanekalon products was to use the flame retardancy and hot water set method.

“With Kanekalon products, it does not melt under fire like the fake products and the product is able to curl in hot water, therefore hair stylists should be more vigilant and test their products by this means” she said.

Mrs Kumi expressed worry over the number of fake hair products on the markets as some hairstylists sold the empty hair packages to other people adding that there was no way his outfit would produce fake fibres especially when their vision was to make quality, safety and beautiful fibres for consumers in order to stay in business.

“The stylists sell the packages to others and they fill it with different and fake products which is why there are lots of fake products in the market” she stated.

Mrs Kumi further advised hair stylists to be watchful and always participate in such workshops to be able to receive more education to produce the best of works by using authentic and quality products that can give their clients value for their money.

On the part of the Greater Accra Regional Director, of the NYA, Mr Matthais Blay added that this was also an opportunity for hairstylists to be more sensitive to fake products and be more skilful in the industry.

“Aside the education, we want to alert them of other opportunities they can benefit from to expand their businesses, such as consulting the National Board for Small Scale Industries (NBSSI)” he mentioned.
