NTC Managing Director installed Apenkwahene of Akwamu

The Acting Managing Director of New Times Corporation, Mr Martin Adu- Owusu has been installed the Apenkwahene of the Akwamu Traditional Area in the Asougyaman District of the Eastern.

The new Apenkwahene, whose stool name is Nana Ansah Brempong V, would   also double as the “Sumankwaahene” of the Akwamu Traditional Area.

He has been tasked with the responsibility to help to resolve all outstanding disagreements which has brought disunity among the Royal Bekai household.

Nana Brempong V was also tasked by the Akwamuhene, Odeneho Wafo Akoto II,  to expedite action to supervise the nomination and installment of a Bekai chief for the Akwamu Traditional Area.

The Royal Bekai family is an integral part of the Akwamu Paramountcy because the Bekai chief act in the absence of the Akwamuhene, while he also serves as the Akyeamehene at the Bekai palace.

Swearing the oath of allegiance before the Akwamuhene, Nana Brempong V pledged his loyalty to respond to the call of the paramount chief at all times and would contribute his quota to the development of the Akwamu State.

The Akwamuhene, in his speech,  expressed optimism in the newly installed chief, stating that, “I have no doubt in Nana Ansah Brempong because I know his capabilities and commitment to the people of Akwamu”.

Odeneho  Kwafo Akoto advised Nana Ansah Brempong V, to use his experience to mobilise the people to develop the area through the provision of basic social amenities, adding that,“The elders must unite and collaborate with the new chief to give us a Bekai, I need a Bekai because without him we are not complete.”

For her part, the Paramount Queen Mother of Kwamu Traditional Area, Nana Afrakoma II, said it has always been her wish that every vacant seat within the traditional area be occupied to enable them play their respective roles to promote development for the people of Akwamu.

She was also hopeful that the Apenkwahene would bring his experience on board to make Akwamu a better place for its citizens.

Speaking in an interview after the short ceremony, the Apenkwahene, Nana Ansah Brempong V, said the time had come for the people of Akwamu to come together and build upon the foundation laid by their forefathers. 

He said to be able to continue from where their forefathers had left, it was  imperative for the chiefs and elders to stay unified and work together towards achieving a common goal.

He therefore asked the chiefs to bring on board their ideas to bear and also assist him to initiate development activities to raise the standard of living of the people of Apenkwa and Akwamu as a whole.
