The Northern Regional Muslims Council on Monday presented relief items worth GH¢150,000 to the Akosombo flood victims to aid their suffering.
The items included 200 bags of maize, 10 bags of rice, 500 tubers of yam, 500 bales of used clothes and 240 pieces of wax prints.
The presentation formed part of the Council’s efforts to help ameliorate the suffering of the victims of the spillage of the Akosombo Dam and Buipe flood in the Savannah Region.
At a short ceremony, the Chairman of the Muslim Council, Sheikh Alhassan Abukari Issah, said Islam taught every Muslim to understand that human beings were brothers and sisters to each other when in dire need.
He said these called for others to offer assistance and to sympathise with the other brothers and sisters in need.
Sheikh Issah stated that the Council was committed to mitigating the plight of the victims of any form of disaster in any part of the country.
“We are ever ready to support unforeseen incidents in this country, be it in a Muslim community or non-Muslim community, even though we do not pray for such to happen,” he added.
He consoled the victims and emphasised that Almighty Allah, who brought this upon them, would again shower them with His blessings.
The Chairman appealed to them to continue praying to God and told them that sooner than later their pain and agony would be a thing of the past.
Sheikh Issah, however, appealed to the international bodies to assist the government to find lasting solution to this perennial problem in the country, especially in flood prone areas, and commended all those who supported and contributed in diverse ways.
The Northern Regional Minister, Alhaji Shani Alhassan Saibu, received the items on behalf of the beneficiaries and commended the Northern Regional Muslims Council for the kind gesture.
