Murdered nurse’s crime scene set ablaze

The crime scene of the murdered nurse, Ruth Ama Eshun, has been set ablaze by unknown suspects ostensibly to frustrate police investigation.

But, a police source has indicated that the setting of fire at the crime scene, last Saturday, would not in any way affect their investigation.

According to the source, investigators had already carried out a deconstruction of the crime scene-a bush near the home of the victim.

So far, one person has been arrested by police in connection with the murder.

Deceased, 30, a mother of three, was found dead at a secluded area close to her Ayoum new site residence in the Bosomtwe District.

Relatives of Ruth Ama Eshun, who could not trace the whereabouts of the deceased after she closed from work on Monday, February 3, found her lifeless body a day later.

Police were called in to convey the body which has now been deposited at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital morgue.

Investigators who visited the crime scene found a mobile phone which was suspected to be for persons behind the suspected murder.

Ruth’s husband, Kwadwo Arhin, has urged police to quicken the pace of investigations.

According to the Assemblyman of the area, Prince Adutwum, she was last seen by her colleagues leaving the health centre for her home, at about 3:00pm on Monday, February 3, 2020.

He claimed deceased’s family became alarmed after she failed to return home later that day and was reported missing by her husband.

The Assemblyman claimed the lifeless body of the deceased was discovered the following morning at about 100 metres away from her home.

Though police in the Ashanti Region are yet to give full details on the matter, many residents believe that the young nurse might have been gang-raped and murdered by her assailants.

Ms Eshun was a staff nurse at Sewua Health Centre in the Bosomtwe District.

The Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives’ Association with the backing of social media users, has launched a campaign (#Justice4RuthEshun) to demand justice for the victim.

In a statement dated February 7, and sighted by the Ghanaian Times, the association described the act as inhumane and appealed to the Ghana Police Service to investigate the matter with the urgency it deserves and bring the perpetrators to book”.

It also urged the government to ensure the protection of nurses in the country.
