Maintain competent MMDCEs—Pres urged

A leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has urged the president to maintain deserving people, as he appoints Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) and should tread cautiously.

“As you make changes in your government, I remind you appointments of new MMDCEs are crucial, but tread cautiously by ensuring competent and hardworking Chief Executives with enriching experiences, are maintained,”Yaw Appiah reiterated.

He said President Nana Akufo-Addo could however, replace MMDCEs who ‘misconducted’ themselves and made the party unpopular unless any of them criminally misconducted himself/herself, “there is no need for the president to replace him/her in interest of the NPP and for the sake of the 2024 elections.

Mr Appiah, a former Ahafo Regional Organiser of the NPP, noted that “some MMDCEs worked harder in their first term and they have already gotten enriching experiences and favour from the party, it will not be politically prudent for the president to replace them and any attempt to do so will spell doom for the party in 2024.

“Ghanaians expected to see much development in the second and last term of President Akufo-Addo to enable them to take informed decisions in Election 2024, some of the MMDCEs performed well and have proven track records to maintain their positions.

“The NPP’s slim majority in Parliament is an indication it will be uneasy for the House to push for implementation of new government policies, programmes and social interventions, because of our nature of partisan politics, any policy programme and social intervention that will make the party popular in the eyes of the citizenry, widen chances in the next general election, will face stiff opposition from minority in Parliament,” Mr Appiah indicated.

He underscored President Akufo-Addo required experienced and competent MMDCEs who would push and strengthen already introduced social interventions, policies and programmes of the government for citizens appreciate.

Mr Appiah insisted that the president would not sack or replace any MMDCE or Minister of State without any apparent reason, or justification and pleaded with NPP members, supporters, sympathisers, well-wishers and faithful to cooperate with him as he makes changes in his government. -GNA
