Govt commitment to job creation not encouraging – PNC

The People’s National Convention (PNC) has challenged the government to prioritise job creation in the 2020 budget since the rising unemployment rate, especially among the graduate class does not bode well for the future of the country.

It asked the government to demonstrate its commitment, dedication and determination to job creation in the coming year because it had not done much in the last three years since it came into office.

The PNC stressed on the need for a “deliberate policy and programme in terms of bridging the gap between industry and academia and inform the citizenry how much the government will be spending on job creation next year since after three years in office certainly the government of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has some positives and negatives to talk about.

Speaking ahead of the reading of the 2020 budget, Akane Adams, the PNC Treasurer, said the NPP after three years in office certainly has some positives and negatives to talk about but the government had not done much in the last three years since it came into office, there is the need for a deliberate policy in terms of bridging the gap between industry and academia.

“With days away to the reading of the 2020 budget, the Minister of Finance must tell us how much the government will be spending on job creation next year, delving into the positives, the restoration of the teacher and nursing trainee allowances, Nation Builders’ Corps and the free Senior High School policies are some of the positives but have some negatives.

“As a party we are convinced issues such as challenges with the Free Senior High School and unpaid arrears owed to Nation Builders’ Corp beneficiaries can derail efforts of the government and task the government to do more to address the security concerns of the citizenry, especially after the brutal murder of the two policemen at Kasoa,” Mr Adams indicated. -myjoyonline.com
