The anniversary celebration under the theme; ‘ Recruit Intake IV: 21 years of dedication and the way forward,’ also saw a mini parade held by the intake at the forecourt of their headquarters in Accra.

The parade was reviewed and addressed by the Deputy Comptroller General of Immigration at Finance and Administration, Isaac Owusu Mensah on behalf of the Comptroller General of GIS, Mr Kwame Asuah Takyi.

Addressing the gathering, Mr Mensah said the intake made of up 168 officers comprising 132 males and 36 females were appointed into the service on April 1, 2002 after a rigorous recruitment exercise at Assin Foso.

He said out of the 168 officers, 18 had resigned to pursue other career path and four others were dismissed from the service with nine regrettably lossing their lives.

However, he noted that the intake had been able to produce some senior officers with four traditional chiefs recognise by the service and the senior most member of the intake being a Chief Superintendent.

Outlining the activities for the anniversary, the Deputy Comptroller said a Muslim prayers at the Police Mosque would be held for all officers of the intake and all officers of GIS after the precision.

“Morning aerobics at the La-Boma beach resort, a dinner party at the Tang Palace Hotel which will be attended by special guests including Elizabeth Adjei, first female Director of GIS, Mr Felix Yaw Sarpong, a retired Comptroller General, the Comptroller General of Immigration and his deputies,” he added.

Mr Mensah said the group would then climax the anniversary celebration with a thanksgiving service at the Police Church in Accra.

The spokesperson for Intake IV, Assistant Superintendent, Immigration (ASI) Ambrose Binpong said, though they were faced with some challenges, the group had achieve a lot since their recruitment into the service.

He said the group was spread out within the country to protect the borders in terms of smuggling of goods into and out of the country, security, prevention of crimes at the border among others.

ASI Binpong advised individuals coming into the service not to see the place as a “goldmine” but rather a place of dedication to Ghana.
