Ghana to host 5th West African Organic Conference, Nov 12-15

Ghana will host the fifth West African Organic Conference (WAOC), at the University of Ghana in Accra on the theme “Organic Agriculture Life for All (Human, Plant and Environment).”

The conference which is scheduled between November 12 and 15 aims to bring together stakeholders operating within the organic agriculture value chains to share knowledge, experiences and ideas on how to grow the industry to benefit from its potentials.

It is expected to be attended by more than 300 participants, made up of policy makers, organic farmers, producers, agro input entrepreneurs and organic food processors, among others.

Dr De-Fenzy Schandorf, President of Ecological Organic Agriculture Platform (EOAP G) made these known at a press briefing in Accra on Tuesday.

He said the conference which would include an exhibition would enable participants to explore and showcase the potential of organic agriculture in the transformation of national and regional economies.

“It would increase awareness about the value of organic agriculture to obtain support and buy in among policy makers, organic stakeholders and the general public,” he said.

Dr Schandorf said there was the need to embrace and consume organic food due to its health benefits.

“It is clear that the way to go is organic farming and promoting organic agriculture will ensure good health and the protection of our environment,” he said

Dr Schandorf was optimistic that by the end of the conference, participants would acquire knowledge on healthy living and deepen experiences on organic agriculture and ideas on how to grow the industry.

He called on the public to visit the exhibition stands meant to showcase organic foods as well as deepen public awareness about organic food products.

“Organic food lovers, entrepreneurs, and investors get to meet producers and take away their favourite organic food items,” he said
