Citizenry asked to ensure operationalisation of zonal councils

Appiah Kwaku Boateng, Executive Director of 4H Ghana, a youth focused non-governmental organisation, has asked members of the citizen platform to continue to advocate for the operationalisation of the zonal councils.

This is to ensure that local governance was truly brought to the doorsteps of the citizenry as enshrined in the 1992 Constitution and to promote the inclusion of the people in the resolution of their developmental issues.

Mr Boateng was speaking at a training programme for leaders of Citizen Platform, which was established under the 4H Ghana and Star Ghana Project to enhance the performance of zonal councils and the participation of the citizenry in local governance in the New Juaben South municipality.

“The zonal councils, when operational under the project, will help include the vulnerable to include people with disability in local governance, and help increase the revenue of the area, which include Adweso, Zongo, Anglo Town and Nsukwao zonal councils.

“I urge members of Citizen Platform to mobilise local resources to see to the implementation of projects even after they have formally come to an end because mobilisation of local resources is not begging but giving an opportunity to the citizenry in communities to contribute towards the development of the area where you reside,” Mr Boateng stressed.

Kofi Afari, Project Coordinator of 4H Ghana, called for the inclusion of many women and people with disability in appointment of people to work in activities and programmes of the project.
