4 teenagers arrested for theft

The police yesterday arrested four teenagers for stealing items from homes of residents of Dobile and Wapaani in the Wa municipality of the Upper West Region,  last Sunday.

The police retrieved six used home theatres and a strong decoder from the hideout of the suspects, three males and a female.

The suspects were identified as a 17-year-old mason, 17-year-old aluminum glass fabricator, and  two students, aged 17 and 16.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), Inspector Gideon Ohene Boateng who confirmed the story to the Ghanaian Times, said the Police Special Weapon and Tactics Unit following a tip-off arrested the suspects at their homes.  

He said investigations revealed that the teenagers sneaked into the homes of their victims, stole the items at 11pm last Sunday, shared the booty among themselves and hid the rest in a room at Wapaani. 

According to Insp Boateng, the suspects stated that they sold a brand new 26 inches flat screen television at GH¢350.00 to Ibrahim Karim, 19, who is also a student. 

The Police PRO said Karim, who was later arrested by the police for dishonestly receiving, made an initial payment of Gh¢100.00 immediately he received the television on Monday morning from the teenagers, and promised to pay the remaining GH¢250.00 later.
