The 2023 Accra Seniors Tennis Open Championship ended at the Clay Court of the Accra Lawn Tennis Club on Sunday with interesting results.
It had participants competing as social players, semi-professionals and professional players in several age categories.
In the Men 25-34 years singles finals, Nicholson Nartey defeated Godwin Dankwa, 6-3 6-4, while James Wiafe defeated Dr Abraham Oppong 6-4 7-5 to win the Men 35-44 years Singles final.
Alex Kobina Mensah beats Jesse Desbordes 2-6 6-4 10-6 to win the Men’s 45-54 years singles event, while David Carreras defeated George Mills 4-0 to emerge winner in the Men’s 55-64 years singles final.
For the Men’s 65 years and above singles finals, Nico Foekema defeated Maxi Gadegbeku 7-6 6-2.
In the Men’s 30-40 years semi-professional singles final, Nicholas Kumadey beat Japheth Bagerbaseh 6-3 6-2, while Uwe Gneiting defeated Prince Ablorh 6-4 7-6 (3) in the Men’s 40 years and above category.
In the Ladies below 39 years singles final, Precious Nunana beats Kate Coleman 6-3 6-1, while Evelyn Enunwah had a walk over on Emily Stoiber.
The last contest in the ladies singles final saw Faustina Tagoe defeated Yaa Jesiwaa Quansah 7-5 6-2 in the 50 years and above category.
There were also shocking results in both Men’s and Lady’s doubles finals as George Heckson and Richard Odum Mensah beat Fredrick Kenderick Atsu and Oheneba Amoako 7-6 (4) 6-2 in the 35-44 years category.
In the 45-54 years category, Godwin Ayindua partnered Amoako Atta to beat William Amoo and Frederick Okpoti Konney 6-0 6-0, while George Mills and Philip Mensah combined to beat 6-2 7-5 in the 55-64 years category.
Charles Quaye and Mike Hukporti overcame Charles Sagoe and Nana Dadson in the Men’s 65 years and above double finals.
The Men’s semi-professionals doubles final saw Nicholas Kumadey and Bernard Ashitey Armaah defeated Francis Gbolonyo and Japheth Bagerbaseh 4-6 6-4 10-6 in the 30-40 years category, while Rahman Ablorh and Thomas Ohene-Effah won against Stephen Borteye and Isaac Odoom in the 41 years and above category.
For the Ladies doubles finals, Kate Coleman and Precious Nunana beat Eugenia Asigri and Afia Oforiwaa 6-0 6-1 in the 39 years and above category, while Faustina Tagoe and Yaa Jesiwaa Quansah defeated Faustina Wellington Komey and Emily Stoiber in the 40 years and above category.
Prince Ablorh and Kate Coleman beat Richmond Kotey and Shemimah Cobblah to emerge victorious in the mixed doubles final.
The winners, at the end of the competition were presented with various awards and cash prizes.
