Superintendent Peter Lanchene, a retired police officer has declared his intention to contest the upcoming National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary primary in the Wa West Constituency in the Upper West Region.
He said his decision to contest the seat was borne out of his vision of investing in people, changing lives, transforming Wa West and promised to serve the interest of the vulnerable women and children in the constituency.
Addressing delegates and supporters at Wechiau, after picking a nomination form, Supt. Lanchene (rtd) explained that the “te jaa bunyeni (we are all one) syndrome should not mean when a criminal is arrested he or she should be allowed to go, but it means that we should be each other’s keeper, we should be able to correct each other’s children in the absence of their parents”.
He called on the public to live in unity to help foster the rapid development of the area, cautioned them especially the youth against involving in vulgar language, particularly insulting the elderly for whatever reason, doing that would bring curses upon them and advised them to desist from reckless driving particularly during campaign season to keep them alive for the voting exercise.
Supt Lanchene was optimistic that he would win the primary to lead the Wa West constituency and the NDC to the 2020 parliamentary election and declared: “I stand for continuity, I stand for unity, I stand for progress, I stand for love”. He urged the constituents to rally behind him for victory.
He is seeking to contest veteran politician, Joseph Yiele Chireh who has occupied the seat since the creation of the constituency in 2004. –GNA
