AEMA targets more revenue in 2020

The Ayawaso East Municipal Assembly (AEMA) has projected to mobilise to raise GH¢11,538, 420.70 in revenue in 2020 to undertake developmental projects.

The AEMA targets property rates, building permits, market tolls, fines, tradesmen professional licences as avenues to raise the money.

The Planning Officer of the assembly, Ms Makansa Mustapha said this at the second townhall meeting in Accra on Monday.

The meeting was to present the performance of the assembly and to solicit feedback from stakeholders in development process.

It brought together opinion leaders, Zongo chiefs, heads of departments and agencies, assembly members, and community based organisations among others.

She said in 2018 the assembly generated GH¢6, 340271.25 in revenue collection.

Ms Mustapha said some of the projects undertaken by the assembly currently included the construction of 12 seater water closet facility for the 37 Military Basic School, rehabilitation of six-unit classroom block at Al Waheed Basic School and rehabilitation of two-storey  six- unit classroom blocks with auxiliary facility at the Nima Cluster of Schools.

She said the assembly intends to establish a senior high school in the municipality, procurement and supply of furniture to schools and rehabilitation of classroom soon.

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Ayawaso East Municipal Assembly, Hajia Salma Mohammed Sani Kuta in a speech read on her behalf by the Presiding Member of AEMA, Mr Abu Awuvami commended the stakeholders for their contributions over the years towards the development of the municipality.

She said as an assembly they were obliged by the Governance Service Act, 2016(Act 936) to hold the meeting to have interaction with stakeholders to seek their opinion in earmarking projects for execution and also account to them.

The MCE said the district assembly is the highest decision making body in the municipality, urging the electorates in the area to exercise the franchise on December this year.

Hajia Kuta assured the stakeholders that the assembly would ensure there was development in the area.

The Coordinating Director of the Assembly, Nii Armah Ashitey called on the people of Ayawaso to collaborate with the municipal assembly to promote the developmental agenda of the area.

“We must all endeavour to partner the assembly to ensure a cleaner and safe environment by not allowing stray animals to roam the streets, ’’ he added.
