A 26-year-old trader, who was arrested for allegedly offering for sale a locally manufactured pistol with three cartridges at the Achimota Charcoal Station, has been granted GH¢20,000 bail by the Accra Circuit Court.
Prince Atakorah, aka Kofi Atakorah, pleaded not guilty to the charge possessing firearms without lawful authority before the court presided by judge Isaac Addo.
Prince Atakorah claimed the pistol belonged to his late father, which he (accused) took from his father’s room at Asante Mampong, in Ashanti Region.
Prince Atakorah, who said he wanted to sell the gun to get money to pay for his wife’s hospital bills, was admitted to GH¢20,000 bail with two sureties to be justified by the court.
Chief Inspector Josephine Lamptey said the complainants in the case were police personnel stationed at the Greater Accra Regional Police Command.
The prosecution said Prince Atakorah resides at the Achimota Charcoal Station, Accra.
Chief Insp Lamptey said the Regional Police Command had information that Prince Atakorah was offering a locally manufactured pistol for sale.
The prosecution said the police proceeded to the Achimota Charcoal Station and arrested Prince Atakorah, in possession of a locally manufacture pistol and three cartridges.
Chief Insp Lamptey said during interrogation, Prince Atakorah admitted he wanted to sell the locally manufactured pistol and the three cartridges. — GNA
