Sexy Dondon asked to open defence in J.B Danquah-Adu murder case

The Accra High Court hearing the murder case of Joseph Boakye (J.B) Danquah-Adu, late Member of Parliament (MP) for Abuakwa North, has asked Daniel Asiedu, to open his defence.

Asiedu is standing trial for his alleged involvement in the murder of the late MP at his residence at Shaishie, in Accra, in February 2016.

The court presided over by Justice Lydia Osei Marfo said Aseidu, first accused, also known as Sexy Dondon, has a case to answer.

The court indicated that the prosecution had succeeded in making a case against Asiedu, and ordered him to open his defence and file any witness statements and another person he wished to call in the matter.

Asiedu, and Vincent Bosso, second accused, who were standing trail, were jointly held on charges of conspiracy to commit robbery.

Asiedu is being held on charges of murder and robbery. They have denied the charges before a seven-member jury.

The court had earlier acquitted and discharged Bosso because no case has been made against him.

Mr Yaw Dankwah, defence lawyer, prayed the court to make a submission of no case on behalf of Bosso.

The lawyer said it was clear from the prosecution’s case and evidence that they had failed to prove any case against Bosso beyond reasonable doubt.

Mr Dankwah said“since the burden is not on us, we pray you release and discharge the second accused person.”

The court held that the prosecution had failed to make a case against the second accused and, therefore, acquitted and discharged him on the charge of conspiracy to rob.

Meanwhile, the cross examination of Assistant Superintendent of Police Augustus Nkrumah, the case investigator has ended, and he has been discharged by the court.

In May 2017, Asiedu and Vincent Bosso were discharged, re-arrested and fresh charges preferred against them.

On February 6, 2019, the two were committed to stand trial for the second time for the alleged murder of Mr Danquah-Adu.

Asiedu, and Bosso, were both charged with conspiracy to commit robbery, while Asiedu was separately charged with murder.

Conducting the committal at the District Magistrate Court, Ms Sefakor Batse, a Senior State Attorney, said the state would call 11 witnesses and rely on 29 exhibits to prove its case.

She said on February 9, 2016, around 1:00 a.m, the accused planned to undertake robbery, but due to misunderstanding, Bosoo did not partake in the act.

Ms Batse told the court that Asiedu went to the MP’s house, robbed him of his three mobile phones and stabbed him (MrDanquah-Adu) leading to his death.

The prosecution said that Asiedu gave two of the phones to a repairer to unlock, but the repairer saw blood stains on the phone, reported the matter to the police, and Asiedu was arrested
