Police nab 30 for violating compulsory nose mask wearing

The Effutu Municipal Divisional Police Command has arrested at least 30 persons for violating compulsory nose mask wearing, and other safety measures, to prevent the spread ofCOVID-19.

They were arrested along the streets of Winneba township and the main market, to help prevent the spread of the disease.

The offenders, mainly students found in groups without observing social and physical distancing, were granted police enquiry bail, and provided them with nose masks by the police.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency, Chief Superintendent Samuel A. Okanta, Effutu Divisional Commander, said the operation was to enforce President Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s directive on COVID-19 protocol.

The President has advised the public to strictly observe the protocol to protect themselves from contracting COVID-19.

Chief Sup Okanta noted that the disease was becoming serious, and expressed worry that students, who should help to combat its spread, were rather flouting the measures put in place to combat it.

He said the police will continue to enforce the President’s directives, and warned that people, who would violate the protocol, would be arrested and prosecuted to serve as deterrent to others.-GNA
