A 37-year-old mason, who allegedly had in his possession a locally manufactured riffle and ammunition illegally, has been remanded by the Accra Circuit Court.
Mr Benjamin Dzidornu, a national of Benin, pleaded not guilty and the court presided over by Mrs Susana Eduful remanded accused in police custody to reappear on August 29, 2023.
The court directed prosecution to file and serve all disclosures and witness statements before the next adjourned date.
Police Chief Inspector, Dickson Atunah, prosecuting, said a team from the National Intelligence Bureau, led by ASO Nana OwusuAbabio, arrested accused in an uncompleted building at the Spintex road.
The prosecution said when the team conducted a search, a locally manufactured rifle, 341 rounds of sellier and bellot 9mm luger ammunition and a cutlass were found.
Chief Insp. Atunah said the accused, seeking greener pastures in Ghana, resided at Manet, Spintex road.
The prosecution said the accused was a member of a group of land guards based at Manet, adding that “this group of land guards is headed by one Mallam, alias ‘Commander’”
Chief Insp. Atunah said the accused, in his statement, denied ownership of the locally manufactured rifle and ammunition found in his room.
The prosecution said the accused indicated that they belonged to Hamsa, a land guard, under the leadership of Mallam.
Chief Insp. Atunah said accused failed to show the location or the whereabout of Hamsa, but only provided his telephone number. – GNA
