Man arrested for allegedly possessing firearms, ammunition

A 39-year-old Togolese, Dominic Bimba, was on Wednesday arrested by the Denu District police in the Ketu South Municipality of the Volta Region, for allegedly possessing firearms and 61 rounds of ammunition without lawful authority.  

Dominic Bimba was travelling on an Accra-bound vehicle from Denu when the police intercepted the vehicle at Tokorat a police check point at about 4:00 am.  

The search led to the discovery of two US-made six-round Ruger revolver pistols, ammunition and two spent shells.  

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Effia Tenge, Public Affairs Officer of the Volta Regional Police Command, who confirmed the arrest to journalists in Ho, said preliminary investigation indicated that the suspect was resident in Tokor.  

She said when Bimba was arrested, he told the police that he was transporting the weapons to someone in Accra.  

DSP Tenge said, the suspect was in police custody assisting in investigation.  

Bimba’s arrest comes a day after gunmen stormed the house of a mobile money merchant at Hlevi, near Sogakope in South Tongu District and killed a 35-year-old occupant in the house.
