Hearts must win GPL trophy, FA Cup – Nurudeen

Accra Hearts of Oak stand-in captain, Abdul-Aziz Nurudeen, says that Hearts season without the Ghana Premier League trophy and an FA Cup success would be disastrous.

“The target for the season is to win the ultimate trophy and the FA Cup; If we fail to achieve these, it will be a total failure on our part.”

Nurudeen, who returned to action this season after being sidelined for a year due to a knee injury, made this remark in an interview with the Times Sports.

He performed creditably in the Phobians 1-0 win over Nosatreman FC in their week two game at the Accra Sports Stadium, but lost by the same margin to Tano Bofoakwa in Sunyani at the Sunyani Coronation Park.

Speaking after the game, the midfielder said the playing body would have no excuse not to deliver the double for the club this season following the investment made by the Board Chairman, Togbe Afede XIV, to strengthen the team.

“The board chairman has done very well for this team by signing new players, providing the needs of the players, and making us live peacefully in Pobiman. We stay very close to the training grounds with additional recreational facilities to make us feel at home.”

According to him, it was unfortunate the Phobians started the season on a losing note in Tamale but reacted positively against Nsoatreman.

Nurudeen picked his first Man-of-the- Match award in the game against Nsoatreman and urged his colleagues to put up their very best in the upcoming matches to make the fans and board happy.

“Winning the two major trophies is not a task beyond us. If we put in the hard work and commitment, we can overcome every opposition. For me, I believe this is a good time for us to show our strength.”

That notwithstanding, the former Vision FC midfielder said that having such an ambitious agenda does not indicate that the team has reached its peak, adding that, “we still have a lot of work to do to get to the top, but I believe in what the Coach Martin Koopman-led technical team is doing.”
