Foundation canvases votes for women in district level elections

The Henry Djaba Foundation, a non-governmental organisation (NGO), focusing on gender and social protection is canvassing for votes for women and Persons With Disability (PWDs) in the December 17, 2019, district level elections.

The elections is intended to elect assembly and unit committee members to represent their constituents at the assemblies, which NGOs and other influential people have urged the electorate to vote massively for female candidates and PWDs.

The foundation is spearheaded by Madam Otiko Afisa Djaba, a former Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection Minister and a National Women’s Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), which had indicated that women and PWDs were capable of making a difference in society since their disability and vulnerability were not inability.

Madam Djaba, together with a group of influential people in society, including Reverend Eastwood Anaba, of the Anaba Ministries International are championing the cause of women and PWDs, to be elected to the various assemblies nationwide.

According to her, “the time is ripe for women and PWDs to be given the chance and elected assembly and unit committee members, in order to champion the growth and development of their local assemblies.

“With at least 22,000 assembly member aspirants, only 909 of them are women, and thus, called for massive votes for them, since they will equally perform like their male counterparts or even perform better than them,” Madam Djaba stressed. -GNA
