Farmer arrested for robbery, posing as soldier

Justice Arhin, a farmer, who posed as a soldier and robed people of their personal belongings, has been nabbed by the police at Oyibi in the Greater Accra Region.

The suspect and three accomplices, Botwe, aka Snipper, Adams and Derrick, now at large, all dressed in military camouflage, terrorised victims before seizing the effects.

Arhinand accomplices, who claimed to be working as National Security operatives, allegedly robbed some Nigerians of their phones and personal effects, at Ayensu Estates, Oyibi.

Arhin and his accomplices wore military camouflage uniforms whenever the embarked on the alleged nefarious acts, and on one such operations, he (Arhin), IsmailaQuaye and Isaac were arrested and put before the Adentan Circuit Court.

The pleas of accused, who were charged with unauthorised use of military uniform and accoutrement, were reserved. They are also facing charges of conspiracy to commit crime to wit robbery.

Nyame, a driver and Arhin are facing additional charges of abetment of crime and robbery respectively.

The court presided over by MrsSedinamAwoBalokah has remanded accused into police custody, to reappear on August 12.

Prosecution told the court that the complainants were all Nigerians, residing at Ayensu Estates at Oyibi, whilst Arhin, resides at Bawjaise in the Central Region, Quaye resides at Dansoman, Accra, and Nyame, at Amasaman, Accra.

The court heard that Arhin together with Botwe, Adams and Derrick, on board a Toyota Vitz Taxicab, invaded the house of complainants, claiming to be operatives from National Security.

Prosecution said accused robbed the complainants of 14 assorted android phones, five assorted laptop computers, video games, iPhone 13, and iPhone XMaxand demanded GH¢2,000 from them.

The court heard that because complainants could not provide the GH¢2,000, accused forced one of the complainants into a taxi and drove him to Madina and made away with their booty.

The accused, who were driven by Nyame in a vehicle, allegedly went to Ayensu Estate for another operation, but they were arrested by some youth of Oyibi and others escaped.

During investigations, one of the complainant’s iPhone X-Max was found in Arhin’s bag and handed over to the police. – GNA
