€11.5m phase II water supply system project in V/R progress steadily

The Phase III of the Five Districts Water Supply System project, targeted at an additional population of about 108,000 in some 194 communities in the Volta Region is progressing steadily.  

The 11.5million Euros project which took off in November 2020 is scheduled to be completed in 730 days.  

According the contractors, STRABAG AG of Austria, work on the project was actually moving ahead of schedule.  

The beneficiary areas are the Adaklu, Ho West, Agotime-Ziope, Central Tongu and North Tongu Districts.  

The surface water supply facility has the Volta River as its source.  

The Phase III, when completed will feature 90 standpipes and several private and institutional connections.  

The project is being executed with a concessionary loan facility from the Raiffeisen bank International of Vienna under the supervision of Community Water and Sanitation Agency (CWSA).  

The Phase I and Phase II have been completed to serve 27,600 people in the more than 100 communities in the Central and North Tongu Districts from 46 standpipes and seven high level concrete tanks.  

These came to light yesterday when the Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources, Madam Cecilia Abena Dapaah toured some of the project sites and installations in the Central Tongu and Adaklu Districts as part of her two-day working visit to the Volta Region.  

Briefing the minister, Mr Manfred Rauch, Technical Manager of STRABAG AG, said that the facility would supply more than 11million gallons of water daily to the people.  

He said that so far, an amount of 16,870,000 Euros had been utilised for the Phase I and Phase II of the project, while Phase III was being implemented at a cost of 11.5million Euros.  

On her part, Dapaah commended the contractors for working according to high standards, saying work done so far was impressive.
