A 21-year-old driver’s mate has been sentenced to eight years imprisonment by the Accra Circuit Court for defiling a 13-year-old girl in two different guest houses in Accra.
Absalon Toboase, charged with two counts of defilement, pleaded not guilty, but the court presided over by Mrs Christina Cann found him guilty.
Prosecuting, Superintendent of Police Agnes Boafo said the complainant is a trader residing at Mamprobi, in Accra, while the victim stays with the complainant, and Toboase also resides at Lapaz in Accra.
Supt. Boafo said Toboase and the victim, who had contact on Facebook, became friends.
The court heard that following the relationship, Toboase lured the girl with a love proposal on social media site, took her to a guest house at Lapaz, had sex with her and promised to marry her.
Supt. Boafo said the victim later packed her belongings, left the complainant’s house and went to stay with Toboase.
The prosecution said accused took the victim to another guest house and had sex with her, adding that the complainant reported the case to the police.
Supt. Boafo said while at the police station, the complainant received a call from the victim that she was with Toboase at Mamprobi.
The court head that police accompanied the complainant to Mamprobi and arrested Toboase.
Supt. Boafo said a police medical report form was given to the complainant to seek medical care for the victim. — GNA
