Court cautions man to be of good behaviour

The Jasikan Circuit Court has convicted a 19-year-old, self-employed, Attah Prosper Yaw, to sign a bond to be of good behaviour for two years for stealing a 35-kilogramme bag of dried cocoa beans.

Attah would serve three years imprisonment in default on the bond.

The court also ordered the accused to refund GH¢800 being the value of the bag of dried cocoa beans to the complainant.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Seth Vincent Kpodo, prosecuting, told the court presided over by Mr Alfred Kwabena Asiedu that the complainant, 58, was a farmer while the accused was self-employed, and both were residents of Likpe Bakua.

The prosecution said the complainant had a cocoa farm located along the Likpe Bakua and Wli roads.

ASP Kpodo said the complainant harvested cocoa and dried the beans in his cottage.

He said the complainant spotted Attah and others conveying lumber from a nearby forest through his cottage.

ASP Kpodo said the accused sneaked into the cottage and stole cocoa beans belonging to the complainant, valued at GH¢800.

The prosecution said a witness in the case detected the theft and informed the complainant.

ASP Kpodo said the complainant realised that a bag of cocoa beans had been stolen and reported the case to the police and accused was arrested.

The prosecution said Attah admitted stealing the cocoa beans.

ASP Kpodo said Attah failed to assist the police trace the buyer of the stolen cocoa beans. – GNA
