Boy, 4, found dead in a car on church premises

The Accra Regional Police Command has commenced investigations in the death of a four-year-old boy who was found dead on a church premises at Abossey Okai in Accra last Sunday.

The deceased, Godwin Ackom Arthur, was found unconscious and trapped in a Hyundai Elantra saloon car.

The Head of Public Relations of the Command, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Effia Tenge disclosed these to the Ghanaian Times in Accra yesterday.

She said on March 8, at about 12:40pm, the Old Fadama Police Station received information from a member of a church (name withheld) that, after church service the four-year-old boy was found in the vehicle unconscious.

According to the PRO, the police proceeded to the scene, but found Godwin Ackom Arthur lying in supine position dead at the church infirmary.

DSP Tenge said the body was inspected and officers found foam coming from the mouth of the victim with no physical marks of assault.

She said the medical officer in charge of the infirmary informed the police that, the deceased was found trapped in a church member’s car and brought to the facility unconscious.

DSP Tenge said inspection conducted in the car revealed traces of vomit on the back seat and a pair of children socks and shoes.

“On the spot investigations revealed that a drummer of the church had earlier in the morning at about 8a.m parked the vehicle and came back after church service at 12:30p.m to find the deceased lying unconscious inside the vehicle,” she said.

She said the body had been conveyed to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, whilst investigations into the case were ongoing.  

In a related development, one Alex Kofi, 22, got drowned in a swimming pool at a facility at Ofankor Barrier in Accra, DSP Tenge told the Ghanaian Times.

She said operators of the facility (name withheld) on March 6, at 10p.m saw Kofi unconscious and rushed him to Amasaman Hospital but died on arrival.

In another development, on March 9, a complainant assisted by the police patrol team escorted suspect Abubakar Abdul-Ganiu with a knife to Jamestown Police Station and reported that the suspect had stabbed his friend Klouste Kwasi, 34, to death.

The PRO said police proceeded to the scene and found the body in supine position dead with deep stab wound in the chest with blood oozing.

The body has been sent to the Police Hospital.
