8 alleged phone thieves granted GH¢400,000 bail

The Accra Circuit Court has granted GH¢50,000 bail with two sureties each to eight persons accused of steal­ing cellular phones.

The court presided over by Mr Samuel Bright Acquah, ordered that one of their sureties each be a civil servant, and accused should report to the police twice in a week until further notice.

The case was adjourned to March 14, 2023.

The accused, mobile phone sellers, are Nelson Klu, Jo­seph Mensah, also known as Agya, Twum Alexander, best known as Asakapaluta, Stephen Kwadwo Osei, Peter Kwame or Essien, Rocky Kingsley, Prince Nwankamma or Felix G and Okoro Gospel, popularly known as SM or Kid.

They are facing varied charges of abetment to commit crime and stealing.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Evans Kese told the court that the complainants were police from the Police Intelligence Directorate (PID), Police Head­quarters, Accra.

He said the accused claimed to be mobile phone sellers at Kwame Nkrumah Circle and Abeka-Lapaz.

DSP Kese said that the police arrested Badu with iPhone SR and its duplicate fake phone, which he allegedly attempted to use in defrauding innocent people.

He said the other suspects were arrested at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle with 39 assorted stolen mobile phones.

DSP Kese said the accused were arraigned and the exhibits forwarded to the Ghana Police Service Cyber Crime Unit for examination, to ascertain owners of the phones. —GNA
