3×3 b’ball team off to Togo for ANOCA Games

A team of six, consisting of four players and two officials from the Ghana Basketball Association (GBBA) have travelled to Togolese to take part in the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA) Zone III Games scheduled for December 4-9.

The championship is opened to women as ANOCA is focused on increasing women’s participation in sports.

Leading the delegation was Madam Aurora Commodore-Toppar. The other members include Head Coach, James Kwami Ocloo, and players like Carlen N. Adjei, Gloria Gyampoh, Hannah Amoako, and Stephanie A. Annan.

The team will take part in the 3×3 basketball competition, one that has two teams of three players facing off on a basketball half-court.

The sport was added to the Olympic Programme in June 2017 and featured at the Tokyo 2020 Games.

Madam Commodore-Toppar told the Times Sports ahead of departure that the association was honouring the invitation to give the players an international exposure ahead of the African Games.

For her, the ANOCA Games is an opportunity for the players to test their strength and capacity as a team against their fellows from other countries.

“This is a step forward in our preparations for the upcoming 3×3 Basketball Competition at the Africa Games 2023. It would give us a fair idea of the team’s readiness. Indeed we need more of such tournaments to be able to give the team adequate preparations and bonding before the Games.’’
