3 arrested for illegal possession of guns

The police have arrested three persons for allegedly possessing illegal guns, in separate operations, at Tema and Accra, on Monday.

The Director-General of the Police Public Affairs, Deputy Commissioner of Police(DCOP) Kwesi Ofori, who disclosed this to the Ghanaian Times, in Accra, yesterday, mentioned Abdul Razak, Hamza Yakubu and Mubarak Yakubu as the suspects.

DCOP Ofori said intelligence-led operations at Tema Community 25 and Dansoman in Accra, led to the retrieval of weapons, including AK 47 rifle, pump action gun, pistol and ammunitions.

He said the operation at Tema led to the arrest of Razak in possession of a firearm without lawful authority.

“A search conducted on him at his hideout led to the retrieval of an AK47 assault rifle, 90 rounds of live AK47 ammunition, 4 rounds of 17mm ammunition, a machete and a rubber pistol,” DCOP Oforisaid.

He stated that Hamza Yakubu and Mubarak Yakubu were apprehended at Dansoman and a search conducted on them led to the retrieval of one pump action gun and a pistol.

DCOP Oforisaid the three have been remanded in police custody by Accra Court whiles investigations continued.

DCOP Ofori assured of the public that the police would ensure that lives and properties were protected.

“We shall continue to conduct targeted intelligence-led operations to clamp down on criminals and also ensure illegal weapons are retrieved from the society,” he said.

DCOP Oforiurged the public to provide reliable information on criminals to the police for immediate action.
